2008 9th GRADE GAME SUMMARIES

Brookwood vs. Heritage, 3/11/2008 @ Away

The Broncos opened their season with a resounding 13-0 win as they run-ruled the home team Patriots in 5 innings. Three Broncos’ pitchers combined for a 5-hit shutout (Michael Northcutt 3-inn, Brandon Agar 1-inn, Cody Hendrix 1-inn) including 9 strikeouts and no walks. The Broncos’ offense also showed up big with 13 hits including 3-3 performances from Michael Northcutt and Jamie Suggs. Seth Schutter had a 2-2 night including a walk. 11 different Broncos reached base courtesy of walks and hits. Not to be outdone, the defense also looked strong, highlighted by Reeves Blankenship gunning down 2 would be Patriot base-stealers at 2nd base. The Broncos got things started early by scoring 6 runs (4 of them with 2 outs) in the 1st inning as they batted through the entire order. Some of the highlights were a double-steal pulled off by Robert Borkhuis and Alex Wilson and RBI’s from Reeves Blankenship, Trevor McNaboe, Michael Northcutt, Josh Keeling and Seth Schutter (2). The Broncos took a scoring breather in the 2nd but came back in the 3rd with 3 more runs. Some of the highlights were a long drive to left off the bat of Michael Northcutt which got him easily to 2nd. He was then brought home by Jamie Suggs single as Suggs advanced all the way to 3rd on an error by the right fielder. Suggs displayed heads-up base-running by scoring on the catchers throw down to 2nd on a stolen base by Seth Schutter. Schutter then scored on a single by Robert Borkhuis. The Broncos scored 2 more in the 4th highlighted by a hard-slide into 2nd base by Reeves Blankenship to break-up an otherwise routine double-play. After doubling his first 2 times up Michael Northcutt decided to change things up and hustled out an infield base-hit, his 3rd hit of the game. Jamie Suggs then drove in a run with a single, his 3rd hit of the game. In the 5th and final inning the Broncos added 2 more runs. The inning was highlighted by Cameron Faulkner lining one off the knee of the opposing pitcher which ricocheted all the way to 3rd base. Josh Keeling who had earlier walked scored the final run for the Broncos off an RBI single delivered by Ed Collins. The Broncos’ next opponent will be the Loganville Red Devils this Friday and will be the Broncos’ home opener.
