Regional High School Baseball Rankings as of March 31, 2008
By: Jon Mahoney and Matt Remsberg  4/4/08

Find out who the top 10 high school basketball teams are in the East, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West in our regional high school baseball rankings.

In the first regional high school baseball rankings, it's the Southeast that's come out of the gates strong with 10 teams in the National Top 25. Leading the way is national No. 1 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.).

The West region also has a solid group of teams, including No. 7 Sunrise Mountain (Peoria, Ariz.) and its star two-way senior Jaff Decker.

Who do you think should be #1?

EAST
RANK // SCHOOL // LOCATION // RECORD // *PREVIOUS RANK
1. Paul VI Catholic (Fairfax, Va.) - 9-0
2. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) - 0-0
3. St. John's (Washington, D.C.) - 6-2
4. James River (Midlothian, Va.) - 4-2
5. Calvert Hall (Baltimore, Md.) - 5-3
6. North Davidson, N.C. (Lexington, N.C.) - 11-0
7. Brookland-Cayce (Cayce, S.C.) - 13-1
8. Mamaroneck (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) - 0-0
9. George Washington (New York, N.Y.) - 13-0
10. Hartsville (Hartsville, S.C.) - 11-2

Dropped Out:

On the Bubble:Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.) - 0-0; South Caldwell (Hudson, N.C.) - 12-1; Portsmouth (Portsmouth, R.I.) - 1-0; Malvern Prep (Malvern, Penn.) - 17-0; The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.) - 1-0

Notes: St. John's, James River and Calvert Hall all remain near the top of the regional rankings because none have lost a game to a team from the East Region. The teams' seven combined losses all came last week at the Anderson Bat National Classic in California. … Brookland-Cayce and Hartsville appear to be the class of South Carolina prep baseball this spring, with Brookland-Cayce holding the edge thanks to a head-to-head win over Hartsville on March 9 in the championship game of the International Paper Classic. Hartsville's only other loss is to the East's No. 1 squad, Paul VI, in the title game of last week's Southeastern Baseball Classic.

Notes:All 10 teams in the Southeast rankings reside in the National Top 25, leaving a number of talented teams “On the Bubble.” One of those squads is Harrison, which is unbeaten and earned four victories last week.

Cincinnati powerhouse Moeller is a state title contender thanks to players like senior right-handed pitcher Russ Oltorik, who has committed to play both baseball and football at Ohio State.
